FLOATING SHELF TUTORIAL: a nightstand solution for small spaces


SHOPPING LIST:

Wood (for this tutorial we used Ambrosia Maple from here)

*wood must be at least of 1inch thick. We recommend 2 inches.

Wall anchors

Washers

Wood Glue (we got ours here)

TOOLS:

Compound Miter Saw*

*if you don't own a saw, most home improvement stores will cut wood for you

Drill

Ruler/Level

1/2" Drill Bit

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

Please read through the entire plan before beginning this project. Take all necessary precautions to build safely and smartly. Wear safety glasses and work on a clean level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always use straight boards. Check for square after each step. Always pre-drill holes before attaching with screws.

BUILDING THE SHELVES:

Step 1:

Cut boards to desired length

Step 2:

Using your power drill, drill a 4 1/2" deep hole with a 1/2" drill bit

STEP 3:

Using a ruler and a level, mark height you want shelf to be

and Drill anchor bolt holes in the wall, making sure distance between

each hole matches distance of holes in wood

Step 4:

Place your anchor screws in the bracket & push into the wall

and drill in place

Repeat for second bracket

Step 5:

Line the holes of the wood with wood glue & insert wood into brackets

Wait until wood glue is fully dried, decorate with your favorite items and enjoy!
